Most people think of potato farming when they think or Idaho or Sun Valley, but Idaho has dozens of nice mountainous areas tucked away. When you're landlocked and the nearest ocean is hours away, the next best thing is always a lake (that is, if you like camping near water). Lake Cascade located in the northern end of Idaho, offers water and land recreation. You can rent or bring a boat and go water skiing or fishing. Also, the area is known for its prevailing winds, which makes an ideal destination for sailors and windsurfers. It does get crowded in the summer months, so you might want to avoid the mid-day when the crowds are out more in droves. You can also fish for Coho salmon, small-mouth bass and perch either from your boat or the shore. It makes a great family escape to go camp, day hike or just sun bathe and swim. They also offer group campsites so check on their provided website for information on how to make reservations.
